Staycations | What To Do in Philadelphia!

How To Have a Staycation in Philadelphia PA

If money is tight (or you just don’t feel like travelling) this year, you might want to consider a Staycation.  If you live in the Philadelphia area, you can easily find enough to do every day of your staycation.  The real problem is choosing what to do!

Here are some staycation ideas for Philadelphia, PA

(Note: Don’t live in the Philadelphia area? I’ve partnered with over 50 bloggers to share even more great things to do in cities all across the United States! Scroll to the bottom of this post to get ideas for your area!)

Liberty Bell Independence Hall

Independence National Park – if you grew up near Philadelphia, you probably went on a field trip to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. When was the last time you visited them as an adult? I find it much more enjoyable learning about history as an adult and Independence Park really has so much to offer adults and children alike. Admission is FREE, but you will need tickets for the Independence Hall tour.

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Philadelphia Museum of Art – far too many people think of the Art Museum as just “that place with the steps from ‘Rocky’” (admit it – every time you see people running up those steps, you want to smack them), but we know that it is so much more than that! With rotating exhibits and collections, there is always plenty to see. Be sure to check out Art Splash 2015 which will be from June 30, 2015 through September 7, 2015. The Museum’s main building is turned in to a hot spot for children. There will be plenty of interactive tours and activities to keep everyone entertained. Children under 12 are always FREE; Youths are $14 and adult admission is $20.

Adventure Aquarium Shark Tunnel

Adventure Aquarium – located in Camden just over the Ben Franklin Bridge, this was hands-down my both of my sons favorite field trip in 5th grade.  Explore the mysteries of the ocean with plenty of exhibits and shows.  Admission is not inexpensive ($26 for adults; $19 for children), but if you think you might go more than once a year, you should buy the Annual Pass.

Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute – First, I need to tell you something.  If you have very distinct memories of going to the Franklin Institute as a child, one thing that you probably remember is the smell of the walk-through heart.  Well – I was just there last month and I promise you – that smell is gone and the Franklin Institute is still SO much fun as an adult.  The heart is still there as are the locomotives.  Learn about electricity, the human body and don’t forget to take in a show or two!  They also have a fabulous LEGO exhibit (though September 6, 2015) called “The Art of The Block” that is absolutely worth the additional admission charge.  If you can fit the extra $10 per person to add this one on, I highly recommend it!  TIP:  try to get there right when they open and start on the 1st floor.  You will be able to see so much before it starts to get too crowded!

PA Renaissance Faire

The PA Renaissance Faire – hop on the Turnpike out to Lancaster to take in the Renaissance Faire. This doesn’t start until August 1, 2015 and can be a bit pricey, but it is well worth the visit!  Each weekend will have a different theme, so you will want to plan your visit accordingly.

Spirit of Philadelphia

Spirit of Philadelphia – enjoy a lunch or dinner cruise and see the city from the Delaware River!  It’s a little pricier, but something that everyone from Philadelphia should experience at least once.  Choose a weekday Lunch cruise to save the most money! Make sure to check Groupon often, as they have regular deals for their cruises!
