What matcha powder to buy?
I’ve tried a few different matcha powders and these are the one’s I personally like. I like using (affiliate links not sponsored) Encha Ceremonial Organic Matcha, Kyoto Dew Matcha and Aiya Organic ceremonial grade – Always read the reviews when trying a new matcha powder because some matcha powders tend to be way too bitter for my liking.
Ingredients and tools you will need
- Matcha powder – I like using a ceremonial grade matcha powder since its considered to be the highest quality matcha
- Oat milk – or milk of choice. I like using extra creamy oat milk or hemp milk with this drink – an extra creamy dairy free milk tends to froth better and have a better consistency – These are my personal favorite creamy oat milk brands Planet Oat, Chobani, Nutpods, and Oatly (affiliate links)
- Crushed Dried-freeze strawberries – The easiest way to crush dried freeze strawberries is inside a zip top bag and crush with a cup. You can also use a blender or food processor.
- Honey – is the perfect sweetener in matcha drinks. Agave is also great choice.
- Hot Water is use to dissolve the matcha powder. I like to warm the water in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.
- Ice cubes – to make it cold
Recommended tools you can use to dissolve the matcha powder with hot water:
Tools that can be use to froth the strawberry cold foam
- Hand frother
- Blender
- Mason jar with a lid
How to make this strawberry matcha latte recipe
1. Sift matcha powder in a measuring cup or matcha bowl and add in hot water and whisk with bamboo whisk or hand frother until matcha powder is dissolved.
2. Add 1-2 teaspoons of honey and combine – set aside.
3. Crush dried freeze strawberries in a zip top bag using a cup or rolling pin or you can add in a food processor or blend in blender until powder consistency has been reached.
4. Froth the milk: In a measuring glass add 4 oz milk and 1 tablespoon of crushed strawberries + 1 teaspoon of honey and froth for a few seconds
5. Add ice cubes in a tall glass. Pour in oat milk and add in matcha mixture and give it a stir
Step 5 Pour frothed strawberry milk over iced matcha latte and top with crushed dried freeze strawberries and enjoy.
Recipe Variations and substitutions
Any milk works here. I personally like to use creamy or extra creamy oat milk or hemp milk. The extra creamy milks tend to froth so much better. You can also use half and half and heavy cream to froth the strawberry milk.
Matcha– you can do ½ a teaspoon of matcha instead of 1 teaspoon. For ½ a teaspoon I use 2 oz of hot water to mix in the matcha. For 1 teaspoon of matcha powder I like using ¼ cup of hot water.
Dried-Freeze strawberries work great in this recipe, but you can also use fresh strawberries. You can blend 3 fresh strawberries, milk, with 1-2 teaspoons of honey.
Sweetener variations:
You can experiment with any sweetener of choice. Here are some of my other favorite combinations:
- Froth: 1 teaspoon of vanilla syrup plus 2 oz creamy oat milk milk and 1 tablespoon of crushed dried-freeze strawberries.
