There is always the element of luck of course – being in the right place at the right time, with the right product. Here are a few interesting stories about inspirational people that have made it big in terms of financial investments.

Ursula Burns

Currently the CEO and chairwoman of Xerox, Burns is particularly notable as the first African-American woman to become the head of a Fortune 500 Company.

Raised by her single mother in a housing project in the (then uncool) Lower East Side of New York, Ursula’s mother worked hard to send her to Catholic school and eventually New York University.

An internship at Xerox started her career and as this progressed she continued to educate herself, gaining a master of science as well as her bachelor degree.

Peter Briger

When considering your investment options, finding someone who is in tune with your personal aspirations is particularly important: specifically, someone who can help you with sound investment solutions.

You may have seen Peter Briger on CNBC – a principal and co-chairman of the board of the investment management firm Fortress Investment Group LLC. This leading company has many private clients and corporate investors worldwide.

John Ducas

Perhaps the absolute newest kid on the block, John Ducas (aged 17 in 2015) began investing aged nine years old. He started an educational financial research company two years ago and currently invests in several companies.

To do this he uses private capital. Also, he writes articles on economics and finance. His biography reveals that he has taught stock market basics via his online course to more than 1,700 students.

There are more than 30,000 subscribers to his news show on YouTube, entitled The Young Informer. Definitely, Ducas is one investment professional to watch.

Guy Laliberté

You may not have heard of Laliberté but you’ve most likely heard of Cirque du Soleil – the largest theatrical producer in the world that has sell-out shows in many cities including Sin City itself, Las Vegas.

Together with fellow street performer Gilles Ste-Croix, Laliberté founded the company in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, Canada in 1984.

Following financial failures and then successes during the late 1980s, the business went on to become a roaring success. In 2008, Laliberté split his share of 20 percent between two investment groups to provide further finance for the business.

Common threads

At first glance, all these people are very different but they do have some things in common: their involvement in community or charity activities.

Burns has been and is a member of many professional and community boards; Briger is a member of the nonprofit Council on Foreign Relations; Ducas is founder and head of the Telendos Project, which involves building a medical center on the remote Greek island of Telendos; Laliberté is a philanthropist as well as an entrepreneur.

The clear message is that inspirational investment goes hand in hand with a belief in benefiting those who need a little extra help.
