An Open Letter to Life

An Open Letter to Life

Dear Life,

Things have been good between us for some time. We have been on a nice tear and for that, I thank you. You’ve given me a beautiful family, a good job, a nice home, a thriving business, and much more. I really can’t complain much.  Having said that, I want to remind you who I am and how I react when you like to change things up.

Two days ago, you decided to throw me a curve ball. I wasn’t ready for that pitch selection, so you hit me and I fell on my ass. I guess I can blame myself for getting a little careless and not paying attention to what you were doing. We kind of had a little status quo going.  Forgetting to take my own advice, I just followed this status quo and didn’t think anything of it. I was too much in my groove.  Well, I want to say that while you may have hit and knocked me down this week, don’t forget who I am. I don’t sit down on the ground for long. I’m going to get back up, dust myself off, and look you straight in the face.

I remember back a few years ago when paying off debt was my main focus. You loved to poke your head in and mess up my plans. You switched the pitch almost every throw. What did I do? Well, you hit me a few times, but I never stayed down and always got back up. I kept pushing through it all and at the end, I hit a home run. I paid off my debt and did a little happy dance on the home plate. Maybe that dance pissed you off as we haven’t had any issues since then. Life, were you holding a grudge against me this entire time?

Anyway, while you hit me hard this week and made me think about some things, always remember the type of person I am. I never back down, no matter how large the obstacle. I never stay down when I’ve been knocked down. We’ve been through quite a bit my friend, so let’s remember to never underestimate each other. I thought we were doing good over these past few years, but it appears you were just scheming to get your licks in. I’ll face your obstacles this time, the next, and the time after that. I will face what you throw at me every time. I’ll be ready for your next curve ball. I got this message loud and clear. I won’t be resting on my laurels anytime soon. You can be assured of that!

Yours truly,
Grayson

PS. I don’t know why I created this letter with a baseball theme. I don’t even really like baseball, but it worked in this situation!

For those wondering what the heck I’m even talking about, something happened this week that shook me pretty hard. I won’t get into the details, but it’s all work related and it put a sour taste in my mouth. It was completely unexpected and blindsided me to say the least. I’ve been in a funk since, but I will get out soon and return in full force!
